Who shows the boss personal appreciation?

There are shelves of leadership literature that points out the importance of you as a manager praising your employees and showing them appreciation. In Europe, it is even slightly more important than that we get appreciation from the boss, in the US it is slightly more important than that we get appreciation from the boss, in the US it is slightly more important in the other direction.

Then comes the question – where does your boss appreciate it? Isn’t he or she also a colleague? Who are the people that the boss works with on a daily basis, the people whose appreciation really hits deeply? Well, it’s you and the rest of the team.

This is where it can get tricky. How do we show appreciation to our boss, without it being perceived as fawning? But even if it’s difficult, we need to find a way.
